Groundbreaking ceremony for the new logistics center

Mahr is investing at its Göttingen site: The company has begun preliminary work on the construction of a new logistics center on its premises. This was accompanied by the groundbreaking ceremony on March 8 in the presence of Göttingen Mayor Petra Broistedt.

The general contractor for the project is the construction company Goldbeck. Following provisional planning permission from the city of Göttingen, the company is carrying out initial measures at the future site of the logistics center, such as excavating, concreting the foundation and connecting to the sewer system. Mahr expects completion in October 2023, with move-in planned for December 2023. The company will then bundle its entire European logistics in its new central warehouse.

The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony was performed by (in the photo above from left to right): Wolfgang Seibold, Vice President Global Production, Purchasing & Logistics Mahr, Manuel Hüsken, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of the Mahr Group, Petra Broistedt, Mayor of Göttingen, Dr. Lutz Aschke, CFO Mahr, Lisa Straub, Deputy Head of Economic Development GWG, Marcello Dubbert, Project Manager overall Goldbeck, Kai Becker, Branch Manager Kassel Goldbeck and Steffen Rausch, Sales Goldbeck.

Sustainable energy supply

The building has an area of approximately 4,000 square meters. The energy supply is environmentally friendly with a photovoltaic system on the roof and its own transformer. This represents an important building block in Mahr's sustainability concept, as the Göttingen site is to come a decisive step closer to CO2 neutrality by 2030. The company is also greening all areas around the new logistics center, including planting a large number of new trees.

Optimization of all logistics processes

Wolfgang Seibold, Vice President Global Production, Purchasing & Logistics at Mahr, says: "With the new logistics center, we will take a decisive step towards reducing complexity. This is because we will bundle our logistics expertise here at a central location in the middle of Germany and handle all processes much faster. In addition, this will increase customer satisfaction. We will also further reduce emissions by optimizing the organization of logistics processes."

Commitment to the Göttingen site

The construction of the new logistics center is a clear commitment to the Göttingen site. "Mahr is investing a total of around eight million euros in this project," says Manuel Hüsken, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of the Mahr Group. The company is also creating new jobs at the Göttingen site as a result.
