Awarded: Germany's best trainee comes from Göttingen

| Press Office

Double honor for Mahr: Timo Scholz has completed his training as an industrial mechanic as the best in his year nationwide. At the same time, the renewed award of the "TOP Ausbildung" seal of approval confirms the high quality of the training programs at the company.

Mahr places the highest value on the quality of the training of young junior staff. For this reason, the Göttingen-based company with a long tradition decided in 2017 to qualify for the "TOP Ausbildung" (TOP Training) seal of the Hannover Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Germany. With success: Since then, the Mahr has been allowed to use the seal for recruiting junior staff.

During the audit, external auditors check whether a company meets important criteria. In addition, the auditors provide the participating companies with sustainable support for internal quality development. "We expect new ideas and an external reflection of our processes from our participation," says HR manager Sabine Schlüer. "Even Mahr has been receiving fewer applications, and we want to remain competitive with the certification."

The investment in the high quality of training is bearing fruit: Timo Scholz completed his training as an industrial mechanic at Mahr last year and was recently honored by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the best in his year - at the national level. The 26-year-old had chosen this line of work in the fall of 2016 in order to become familiar with as many different manufacturing processes as possible. "At Mahr, I liked the fact that I could stop off in different production areas and learn a great many processes - manual, automatic and CNC-controlled." Mahr is known regionally for its high quality of training, but you should already have manual dexterity, says the freshly crowned skilled worker. After three and a half years as a trainee, Timo Scholz now has a permanent contract in his pocket and is employed at Mahr in the gear pump area of production.

As Sabine Schlüer reports, almost 35 trainees are currently learning technical professions at Mahr: "Mahr has always provided training. That's necessary, because our proportion of skilled workers is around 95 percent." Incidentally, Timo Scholz is already the third best trainee in Germany from Mahr.

With the seal of the Hanover Chamber of Industry and Commerce, companies can optimize the quality of their in-company training – from recruiting trainees to taking them on as permanent employees. The seal is valid for three years, after which it can be re-audited on request. In times of a noticeable shortage of young talent, companies are thus responding to conditions on the labor market, strengthening their position in regional competition and remaining competitive.
