Mahr® Inc. Closes 2020 With a Renewed Focus on Growth
These initiatives ultimately enable its customers to improve manufacturing quality with faster throughput and higher accuracy for the broadest range of applications.
Throughout 2020, Mahr continued to build its seasoned team of industry experts to help support the company’s focus on growth and commitment to providing customers with the service and support needed to help solve unique metrology requirements. The company added nine new employees in 2020, including the appointment of Bill Taylor as General Manger, Sales, for the U.S. and Canada; Josh Howlett as Northeast Regional Sales Manager; and Celina Ortiz as Manager of Quality Assurance. The new additions join the knowledgeable, experienced team that has continually made Mahr a leader in precision measurement.
Additionally, during the temporary closure of factories due to COVID-19, Mahr used the time to re-work its factory floor to optimize production processes. This initiative incorporates a reorganization of assembly areas to improve material flow along with the standardization of workspaces. As a result, Mahr will increase the flexibility of its workforce with cross training in multiple work areas, allowing it to adapt to the constantly changing needs of customers in a more timely manner. The company will also combine its two Providence centers into one location to create larger demo and training areas and bring its team under one roof to enhance collaboration. Furthermore, as part of the updated factory layout Mahr is also changing the way it manufactures standard air plugs. The company has made investments in new manufacturing machines and employed breakthrough intelligent part programming to produce standard air plugs and configurations more efficiently. This will result in faster deliveries to customers.
“Despite a challenging year for us and our customers, we believe that Mahr came out stronger in the end,” said Bryan Orr, Vice President Sales Americas and Executive Director, Mahr Inc. “We feel that this is in large part due to our unwavering focus on supporting customers and team members during these difficult times.”
Mahr’s focus on growth also encompasses continued innovation. The company introduced several innovative new products in 2020, including:
- The newly updated MarSurf CM mobile portable optical surface metrology tool. Updates ensure optimum contrast for highly dynamic surfaces, while maintaining the robust performance and low noise-to-signal ratio that customers have come to expect from MarSurf CM products. The updated CM mobile also offers the highest acquisition speed and highest-resolution confocal measurements on the shop floor or in the field.
- MarSurf M 310 mobile surface measurement system. The successor to the popular MarSurf M 300, the M 310 brings ease-of-use to new levels with a large, illuminated, rotatable 4.3” high-resolution touch screen built into the unit. It is designed to provide high-precision measurements to test surface roughness on small and large workpieces.
- An expanded line of digital depth gages, including the pocket-sized 30 EWRi compact depth gage with a 0.06-inch (1.5 mm) contact and 1-inch (25 mm) gaging range with integrated wireless data transmission, designed for mobile use in manufacturing and inspection at the point of manufacture; and the new universal depth gage 30 EWR-U/30EWRi-U with interchangeable anvils.
- Five new Micromar Micrometers designed to perform specialized measuring tasks, including:
- 40-EWR-R/40-EWRi-R micrometers with spherical and flat anvils for measuring wall thickness;
- 40-EWR-S/40-EWRi-S micrometers with non-rotating blade anvils for measuring grooves and slots;
- 40-EWR-B/40-EWRi-B micrometers with 3 mm diameter measuring faces for recesses and spline shafts;
- 40-EWR-K/40-EWRi-K micrometers with blade and point contact for measuring wire crimps;
- 40-EWR-V/40-EWRi-V universal micrometer kits with interchangeable contacts for measuring diameters over balls, threads and many other special lengths.
Several new products will be introduced in early 2021 as well, including a new benchtop form tester portfolio with new levels of speed and flexibility.
In support of the company’s ongoing commitment to quality, Mahr Inc was recertified to ISO 9001:2015 in 2020. The laboratories at Mahr Inc. are further accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by NVLAP. Mahr’s laboratories feature a unique structure that isolates high-precision measuring equipment from vibration and other environmental effects. The result allows Mahr to maintain very low uncertainties and very high accuracy and precision. The company also has accredited field service technicians performing calibration throughout the U.S., Mexico and Brazil.
Finally, Mahr continued to express its commitment to its local Rhode Island community, including support for CCRI’s Fast Track to CNC Manufacturing program. Mahr had also been chosen as the winner of The Rhode Island Manufacturers Association annual award which recognizes companies that have been instrumental in the growth and success of manufacturing in Rhode Island.
