Mahr is prepared for gas shortage

The high-tech company Mahr currently uses gas to generate heat and convert it into cold. The measuring machine manufacturer needs this for assembly under demanding climatic conditions as well as for cold supply in production. In addition, Mahr needs a gas supply for heating in winter. "To ensure production even in the event of a current gas emergency, we are prepared for an alternative energy supply," says Eckhard Fangmeier, head of quality and project management at Mahr. The company has an additional oil boiler and a large oil tank. Eckhard Fangmeier: "We can switch from gas to oil at any time and thus keep operations running. We have just successfully carried out the test run for this."

Conversion from gas to oil successfully tested
Mahr cooperates with the Göttingen municipal utility for its energy supply. Together with its energy partner, the company tested the changeover of energy sources on August 19, 2022. "The switch from gas to oil went smoothly," says Eckhard Fangmeier. As expected, there was no interruption in heating and cooling during the test run and thus no disruption in production. "Due to the current framework conditions in the energy sector, we are securing the situation in order to remain capable of acting for our customers and to continue to give our employees a secure outlook. We are clearly adhering to the transformation in the use of regenerative forms of energy, says Manuel Hüsken, CEO of the Mahr Group.

Future regenerative energies - climate-neutral by 2030
For a long time now, Mahr has been focusing on energy efficiency and operates its own CHP plants, in which heat and electricity are generated from gas. In parallel, Mahr is implementing a sustainable and modern energy concept: regenerative energies will continuously reduce the consumption of gas. For this purpose, Mahr will install a large PV system in 2023 and additionally renovate company buildings in the future. "We will actively shape our potential contribution to the energy transition and do so in line with our corporate goals," says Manuel Hüsken.
